BECO WALLFORM

Passive House

Beginning in 1999, the construction of the isorast Passiv Haus near Frankfurt, Germany, has progressed well despite much more development work being required than was originally anticipated for certain aspects of design and component specification. Although the isorast (WALLFORM) structure has performed to expectations, other aspects of the specification have been modified in order to achieve the very high standards required for passive energy performance.

Even external colouring was carefully considered in order to optimise energy performance. Constrained by planning and general aesthetics, the two colour scheme reflects that the rear of the building is the "heat retainer" and the front of the building is the "heat producer".

For those interested, it will be possible to arrange a visit to the isorast Passive House once it is occupied and performance will, of course, be closely monitored over the long term.

Other development work on the Passive House design still continues, with variations on the external appearance being just one area currently under further research.
